We will start from the dock of the Negro Lake, where for 15 minutes we will sail in one of the purest waters of the world. From there, we will begin to appreciate the imposing forests around us. We will disembark on a lonely beach that is only visited when doing this excursion, where we will walk along trails crossing ancient native flora that varies depending on the season, orchids, capacitos, ciruelillo, chilco, and little star, among others.
We can also collect edible Patagonian fruits such as “El Calafate”, “La Chaura”, and “la murtilla”, as well as learn about some lichens and mushrooms, such as “old man's beard”, “Chinese lantern”, “compact”, “Indian bread”, and “dihueñe”, among others. We will be able to see a variety of birds, such as woodpeckers, bandurrias, canquenes, pitios, thrushes, caranchos, and more. During the journey, the slope is gentle, along pristine wetlands and solitary landscapes. The scenery changes leaving the forest where we will find a rockier place covered by moraine. From the top of the mountain, after two hours of walking, we will have a privileged view of the turquoise waters of Lake Bertrand and its SOTO, HUEMUL and FUENTES glaciers, which are located in the imposing and long “Cordón Contreras”. From the snowdrifts we can appreciate the waterfalls that form the thaws. This will provide us an impressive and unique sound.
